Dana White recaps UFC 250, talks Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal

REPORTER:
Our data pretty incredible night here at the apex your first paper view since you since you brought it back to Vegas let's start with Sean o'malley what do you make of his performance and I'm I think I've asked you this before but he's a star in the making you did such a great job building Conor McGregor what's the what's the strategy in building Sean o'malley at this point.

Dana White:
Yeah well tonight was a big night for him obviously big task and afford a real guy real veteran of the sport and he made it look easy it was a big step in the right direction from our tonight so yeah we'll we'll see what's next you look great.

REPORTER:
With Connor you have the luxury of moving around taking in Vegas taking a hometown of Dublin you know a value does really have that in place with the travel restrictions but I know you don't have it all right now right now but what do you think in terms of just making sure that this guy gets as big as it looks like another face.

Dana White:
A lot of new challenges over the next several months and and and possibly year I don't know what to think or how to plan this plan every day.
Day by day hour by hour let's put it that way it's not it's not crazy so.
We're we're doing something that nobody else is doing right now.

REPORTER:
You are you said prior to tonight aljamain sterling verses chorus and hang in the winter we get a title shot I gotta believe that's that's pretty safe to say aljamain sterling is next up in line and at a hundred thirty five.

Dana White:
Yeah well we I told you we have you guys know we have John versus all although and and the other this he will face the winner of that.

REPORTER:
Do you have a date official leverage?

Dana White:
But I don't know off the top of my head.

REPORTER:
Okay how bout Garbrandt I mean the guy lost three in a row and knock out any comes back with one of the best knockouts I think we've seen all year you could is perfect for.

Dana White:
This one the best knockouts ever if you look at the timing that we you know the position he was in the time on the clock on the clock left it was it was it was one of the coolest knockouts ever you'll ever see and it was a vicious one it took it took a son Chow a few minutes before you even stand up again.

REPORTER:
That's an Amanda Nunez it is this is this is a question that you get a lot you get a dominant champion she seems to clean out the division in this case it seems like she's cleaned out two divisions you're running out of opponents Fermanagh newness.

Dana White:
We used to say that about Anderson Silva to reset it about Jon Jones and other people too that I can think of off the top of my head but yeah when you're when you end up at goat status and and one of the best to ever do it in an entire sport you you start to people start to think that but the funny thing is that people always pop up there's always a.

REPORTER:
I mean at this point Valentina Shevchenko is it would it would she be the kind of the first name that they were popping your head I mean I just I look at that at the bantam weight a lot twice and yeah.

Dana White:
You know she she she's a hundred twenty five pounder she's the queen of that division you know I could I could see.
Where we get a couple more fights under her belt and fight Valentina before Amanda Amanda is the queen of two divisions right now which is the best ever do it should be everybody in the including Valentina twice and and you know I I'm I'm I don't I don't see why you would do a third one of that unless Valentina goes crazy and like I want this fight I want this fight.

REPORTER:
That this might sound like a question from left field but what about Kayla Harrison I mean she's in the PFL she's obviously turned a lot of heads PFL has had some struggles I've they've they've that I can put on any fights this year.

Dana White:
Yeah.

REPORTER:
What would you think about a potential fight between.

Dana White:
Thing I I don't know where she thinks she's got her career or or you know as far as far as you know.
The level of fighting for UFC title but yeah obviously she's somebody that we're interested in them and and I've been looking out for a while.

REPORTER:
I know you've been talking about for him as with a lot but he was on SportsCenter tonight and just wanted to ask you you know I mean you guys have obviously talked about some of your differences what is what is the plan in terms of reconciliation I mean what what is the plan now in the next few days weeks whatever it is what is what is your plan for him as an office in that match it all has a contract.

Dana White:
Yeah I'll I'll explain it to you and we're in a pandemic right now.
And I just told you were going hour by hour not even day by day and and you know no other leagues pulled off what we pulled off there's no gates there's no anything and we were still talking about he's under contract to sign a new deal.
Yes, seven fights left on his new contract so now we try to negotiate with them and and and we couldn't have done we have a contract with with with the national.

REPORTER:
So as as of as of now are you country in those negate negotiations is done like you when you talk to him.

Dana White:
As of now but I want to fight a lot if not.

REPORTER:
That in the meantime are you moving Gilbert burns says that.

Dana White:
When?

REPORTER:
You're actively moving on with that moving on okay.

Dana White:
Listen I put on fights for a living.

REPORTER:
Yeah.

Dana White:
And people who want to fight can Fite the beautiful thing about this sport is.
This isn't like NFL or Major League Baseball or ended these guys don't have to do anything they literally don't have to and if they don't want to they don't have to.

REPORTER:
One thing that he mentioned in the SportsCenter interview tonight which is brand new he said that let me out of my get my contract you know it when a guy says that do take it seriously and would you ever consider letting him out of his contract.

Dana White:
The dumbest question you literally could ever ask.

REPORTER:
So and so no you don't take it seriously.

Dana White:
No I don't think what's yours not coming up you think I have a contract with the guy where I've honored my contracts I always on my contract never not under contract in my life twenty years of being in this business.

REPORTER:
Turn off well try to ask a smarter one here Steven me otage verses Daniel Cormier way to fight we've been talking about for a while.

Dana White:
That's what.

REPORTER:
The CBO says verses Daniel Cormier the trilogy five have you received any update on when we might see the fight.

Dana White:
This summer hopefully yeah summer summer.

REPORTER:
Okay.

Dana White:
Yeah and we lose or draw it's probably gonna be Cormier's last fight you know he wants this fight was the bay state they wanted to fight with him and he gave it to him it looks like the base going to give him his rematch too so yeah.

REPORTER:
Is are you guys been the UFC has been at the forefront obviously getting sports back well you'll see be at the forefront of getting fans back and like when you're sitting in the apex there has any conversation started in terms of you know maybe we could.

Dana White:
Figure out a way to get fans and you know we're we're not even talk about that I would if I'm gonna bring fans back it's going to be an arena selling tickets will be first.

REPORTER:
That that and another thing is in the apex is the first time that you had a title fight in the smaller cage and I was just curious what you thought you know that that that that the smaller cages been I think fun fans have been reacting to it it's it's a it's a it leads to more action but a title fight you know kind of grander little what did you think.

Dana White:
It's actually not true.
My my numbers people ran the numbers it's it's it's the same or the Kate the smaller cages actually a little less than the than that aside from his age does doesn't matter you would think it would I know everybody loves to talk about it but it's actually not true.

REPORTER:
Mmhm so you like a small case no noted plan to change that you like title fights in there it's a.

Dana White:
No no we have to have a small cage in that decade we built for.
The poms in the hard rock in small venues like that and this but when you're in an arena you can't use this cage.
It has a lot of problems first of all it's too small looks like a little matchbox in the in the in the in the arena and it's harder to see inside of.

REPORTER:
Gotcha yeah one thing that you might not be aware of just moments ago Conor McGregor tweeted that he's retiring.

REPORTER:
Did you see this?

Dana White:
No I I didn't see it but making a levy told me.

REPORTER:
Okay any any good what's your initial thoughts on Conor McGregor saying he's retired listen you know I I see it all the time.

Dana White:
First of all let me start here let me reiterate were a pandemic and the world is a really crazy confusing place right now and I think that a lot of people are feeling listen you don't think that I do you think that what I'm doing right now is easy at all I mean there's three times a day I throw my hands up I'm like I'm done I'm done with this so I I I understand what everybody's going through you know and you know everybody wants a fight right now.
You just said it yourself we can't move around we can't go to different arenas there's a lot of things we can't do and I I think a lot of people are frustrated right now frustrated and upset.
Mad confused I think that that that that the world is very emotional very emotional place right now and.
Nothing surprises me right now nothing surprises me.

People have been locked up in our house for three and a half months people are walking around wearing masks you know that there's protest thing there's rioting you know there's a lot of craziness going on right now and I thought I thought I just think it's a weird time for a lot of people and I'll say it again I told everybody.
         You don't have to fight.
We're not going anywhere.
To retire you can say I'm not gonna fight you can do whatever you want right now nobody is pressuring anybody to fight and if Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire you know my feelings about retirement.
You should absolutely do it.

REPORTER:
Yeah.

Dana White:
And I love Conor McGregor.
It was a handful of people that have made this really fun for me and he's one of.

REPORTER:
Last thing fight island everybody's been missed you know wondering about it for four weeks there's a port report that came out today that fight island is located in Abu Dhabi is that what can you say about the report.

Dana White:
I will announce this week where fight on this.

REPORTER:
