The whole story of Togg, the Turkish car
On Friday morning, the Turkish Official Gazette published the official document for the production and trade of the new Turkish car, to enter the real world of existence, waiting for its first version to go on the road.
The story of the Turkish car industry dates back to 1961, when the first Turkish car “Defrim” saw the light and produced only 4 copies.
In 1966, Wehbe Koç produced the first successful model of the home-made Turkish car in the factories of the giant “Autosan” company, and the car that bore the name “Anatolia” was considered the most important leap in Turkey’s efforts to own its national car at that time.
The “Anatolia” scored bright points in the field of car achievement, as it won with its Turkish driver, Ring Kogebe, in the race “First Thrace Rally” in 1968, as it caught the attention during its exhibition at a car exhibition in the British capital London in the same year.

The company produced 93,188 cars on the market, including 62,923 regular cars, 30,265 pickups, before production ceased in 1984.
Resume the march
The Anatolia car is considered the “legal grandmother” of the modern Turkish car that Turkish President Erdogan announced his country’s intention to produce in 2011, but the project stopped after being subjected to many criticisms.
During the past decades, Turkey has acquired the rights to manufacture a group of cars, the most important of which is French Renault, which is manufactured in the state of Bursa and is one of the most widespread local cars in Turkey, in addition to Honda, Hyundai, Ford, Turin Connect, Fiat and Mercedes cars.
In early 2019, German car giant Volkswagen opened a factory to produce its cars in the Turkish city of Manisa also, while Turkey owns the rights to the production lines of many other European, Japanese and Korean cars.
But the modern Turkish car represents the culmination of manufacturing experiences in the automotive sector with pure self-efforts, and it is attended by 5 giant Turkish industrial companies, which are “Anatolia”, “BMC”, “Karaja Holding”, “Torxel” and “Zorlu Holding”.
On September 1, 2018, Muhammad Gurshan Karakash was appointed as the Group’s General Manager.
According to the Turkish official newspaper, the five companies signed a protocol for cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and the Federation of Turkish Chambers and Exchanges in order to form a joint group to produce the local car.
Turkish auto market
During the past year 2018, the value of Turkey’s exports of cars reached 31.6 billion dollars, an increase of 11% over the year 2017, while the Automobile Exporters Union in Turkey expected that the country’s exports would exceed 32 billion dollars in 2019.
Locally, the statistics of the Turkish Statistical Institute revealed that the number of cars registered with the Traffic Directorate branches throughout Turkey during the year 2018 exceeded 22 million vehicles.
The auto manufacturing market employs about 400,000 workers, while 50 research centers are preparing studies to develop Turkey’s auto production.
