Lady Antebellum Renounces name to Lady A following a touching statement 'We feel like we have been awakened'

The renouncement of name from 'Lady Antebellum' to 'Lady A' came due to the protest and the killing of George Floyd, a black man. The band confessed that the past weeks of protest  has really made their heart stirred with conviction and their eyes opened wide to the injustices, inequality and biases black women and men have always faced and continue to face everyday. They said the blindspots they weren't aware of has been revealed.

The band confessed that they did personal reflection, band discussion, prayer and many honest conversations with some of their closest black friends and colleagues, and they decided to drop the word 'Antebellum' from their name and move forward as Lady A, the nickname they were given by fans from the start of their reign.

The band blame their inability to acknowledge or take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before the civil war, which includes slavery. The band acknowledge their soberness for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued. They murmured that causing pain was never their heart intention, but it doesn't change the fact that indeed, it did just that. They deemed it fit to make a change expecting the universe to join them in the fight against racist act.

The band so much pledge to put on their best behavior with commitment  in fighting racist act. They further said they are committed to examining their individual  and collectively impact  and making the required changes to practice antiracism
